This was wonderful! I added more than olives (considering nosotros dear olives), some of the olive brine (instead of more than salt) and I didn't have whatever sazon so I improvised past mixing equal parts of coriander, cumin, achiote (basis annatto), table salt and powdered garlic. Served with rice and fried plantains.

This recipe was really quick and easy which works well for weeknights. Our grocery store had different flavors of sazon, and then similar another reviewer, I found on online substitute which called for equal parts ground corriander, cumin, garlic powder, and paprika. By using the substitute I was able to leave out the common salt too. I didn't have pitted olives, so I just used the standard green manzanilla olives, ~eighteen of them or 1/3 loving cup. Side by side fourth dimension I'll finely dice these olives to have a more than even distribution in the dish. I actually liked the sweetness of the raisins with the salt of the olives.

I make it with a skillful quality grass fed beefiness and on my 2nd endeavor, I added some of my female parent in law's sofrito from Puerto Rico. She makes it with culantro, just I can't discover it here. I made it exactly like you said the 1st fourth dimension around and it was awesome. I didn't find information technology too salty at all. Deeeee lish!!! I didnt take sazon seasoning, so i added garlic powder, onion powder, coriander, oregano, cumin, salt, pepper, paprika. This is good with white rice. The raisins and olives and tomato sauce and green pepper are a must accept. As well, I removed some of the oil, only not all of the oil. The cumin is a must take in this recipe. Also, i soak the raisins in hot water to make them plump and soft. This is practiced with a fried egg on top! Make this for your family unit. They will dear it! I'm from Miami, so I had already made Cuban picadillo a bunch of times, from another recipe. You tin also add some fried potato to the mixture. I never tried it with capers, though. My son loves it and now he and his married woman make it all the time, too. Thank you for this recipe.

What a yummy dish! I had about three/4 lb left over turkey meat taco seasoned to utilise upwards, this was the perfect reincarnation for it. I used a red pepper, and subsequently the saute added the turkey. I didn't take any tomato sauce, so I added near 1 1/ii loving cup Goya caldo de tomate con pollo broth, the other ingredients, and allow information technology simmer down and thicken. Made it! My whole family unit loved it. At start I was worried information technology would be besides salty considering of the two packs of Sazon, simply it was perfect. I didn't add raisins because my family doesn't like them, but I did add together the capers considering I had them on paw from making piccata yesterday. It was perfect. I served information technology with Tostones and Spicy Mayo and everyone gobbled information technology all up. My only recommendation would be to dice the olives a niggling more finely and I added about 20 small olives versus vi large ones. Oh, and I didn't have any cumin, but Information technology certainly didn't need it to exist succulent.

I have made picadillo multiple times and this is by far the best recipe I have found. Only changes I made were to pulse the onion, garlic and greenish pepper in the food processor instead of chopping, omitted the cumin and added extra olives and capers and 2 bay leaves. So quick and and so good. I have even made information technology with ground venison and it was excellent. I will use this recipe from now on. Update - fabricated this once again and idea it needed a piffling something. Added 1/ii the cumin and information technology was corking. Dear this recipe. It couldn't exist easier.

Just made it after a 7-mile run. HEAVEN. The but matter is it is a bit salty but that's considering of the Goya packets an enterprising private could make their own seasoning nixing a lot of the added salt. Merely as it stands, this dish is delish. Also I skipped the raisins. Equally Wikipedia says, raisins are sometimes in the Cuban version ;-)

Fabricated every bit directed with the simply changes being that I used a sweet red pepper because I didn't accept a light-green one and I made my own sazon using 2 tsp each cumin, paprika, and garlic pulverisation but only had one tsp of coriander. I'm certain it would have been even improve with some other tsp of coriander. I left out the 2nd amount of cumin. It would have over[powered the dish. Loved the fashion the salty olives and capers played off the sweetness raisins and my family cleaned it up in no time flat! Served information technology with cornbread. Volition def make this again! Excellent recipe! Never made Picadillo before and this is a great classic recipe to get you started. The only differences I made were based on family unit preference. I removed the raisins because the family won't eat them, doubled the olives and added more garlic. Passed this recipe on to a friend and they loved it also!

Yummy, yummy Picadillo! Tastes just like my married man & I had at diverse little Cuban restaurants in Key W when we were stationed there in the mid-1960's. I made information technology exactly according to the recipe and added the capers considering nosotros like that little piquant bite. I served it with the black beans and yellowish rice only as we had it there. It was so, so skillful and brought back wonderful memories box our honeymoon twelvemonth in a little fleck of paradise. Wow, just like I had back abode in Little Havana in Miami. The stop results are extremely flavorful... this recipe ranks as ane of my favorite Cuban comfort dishes. If you lot're inclined to make this spicier then I recommend don't. The flavour of this dish should be enjoyed on their own merits. I made just a couple of minor changes considering I've had this dish many times in the by. I added two tablespoons ketchup and 1/iii loving cup water along with the tomato sauce, I besides substituted light-green pepper with red pepper, just my personal preference. Last few changes I used 8 olives (with pimento) instead of vi, and a added a tablespoon of the olive juice and no capers.

Made a triple batch for a x person family dinner accept plenty for one tiffin. I'd say it was a hit! The only affair I changed was no extra salt and no capers. I also made my ain sazon seasoning. Everybody loved it.

This was a great recipe! I am sure if I followed it to a "T" information technology would have been wonderful, as it is the cuban way of making picadillo. Nevertheless, I went by the fashion I remembered the way my Tia's tasted to me... my Cuban family unit omits the raisins (well some of us anyway, lol) and capers, and adds Sherry wine, so that is what I did, and it was truly astonishing!

It wasn't bad, but I hold, the cumin ruined it. It concluded up tasting like taco meat. I think more olives would accept been adept also. So less cumin, more olives, I would use it again.

I had loftier expectations for this dish merely in the end nosotros felt information technology was non equally flavourful every bit expected. Didn't apply capers, I just don't similar them in general merely otherwise 100% followed this recipe. Came out really peachy, a Cuban friend of mine likened information technology to his grandmother's picadillo, and fifty-fifty my mom who is a picky eater loved this recipe! This recipe was not simply simple, merely delicious ??. I read all the reviews although it might not exist your accurate Cuban Piccadillo it'south simplicity was worthwhile. I used information technology as a filling for empanadas that I served as an appetizer, and what was left I froze and used at later date to fill a crescent roll ring. Very versatile.

This is a very easy and authentic recipe. My Cuban mother-in-police force always made this dish (without a recipe) and I found this and thought I'd give information technology a try. The family idea I had gotten (Abuela's) recipe! I didn't have Sazon and so I used the combo of spices that other reviewers used. It came out great! The merely thing I'd add together would be more than tomato sauce--it was a little too dry out. Otherwise it was perfect!

I have made this dish several times. I used basis turkey this time. I used a 16 oz tin can of tomato plant sauce and iii packs of Goya seasoning. I always add more green olives too. I honey the gustation of the golden raisins and the green olives together. I used ruby-red peppers instead of light-green. It is skilful with either i or both.

Recipe was good. I had 10 lbs of ground beefiness that had to be cooked (got it complimentary.) If you are scaling this recipe please use common sense. Start with base seasoning at about 3/four seasoning and flavour to taste. I found the cumin to be far likewise much then I reduced significantly, I didn't want taco meat. I scaled the recipe to 10 lbs and made about 15 quarts. My friends and family unit will be happy.

I really liked it and I will make it again. It was a squeamish balance of sugariness and savory. What I did dissimilar from the recipe was that I cooked the basis beefiness first and removed it from the pan and allowed it to drain in mesh sieve. Then I cooked the onion, garlic and bong pepper in the beefiness liquid rather than calculation oil. I strained out the vegetable mix, removed the liquid and put everything back in the pan and followed the rest of the recipe. I also used low sodium tomato sauce.

Loved this! I use recipes as inspiration rather than instruction, so made a few changes: I had leftover bits of footing beefiness, turkey, and pork in the freezer, so combined these and used them. I also had no Sazon seasoning, so used equal portions of cinnamon, tumeric and cumin. I added a can of finely chopped tomatoes. I did employ the capers likewise. Yum! Similar chili, it tastes even better the next day!

This became a family favorite. I make this a couple of times a month now, and serve information technology with rice or roasted potatoes. I substituted pimientos because none of us like bell peppers. Overall, the cuban beef tasted actually skillful! I like how the recipe asks for raisins and carbohydrate since it gives the picadillo a sugariness taste to the dish. I left out the olives since I am not a huge fan only even without them it tasted very flavorful and amazing. I did not accept sazon seasoning so I ended upwards making the seasoning with curry powder, onion powder, a couple garlic cloves, turmeric and oregano. This was my showtime time trying the seasoning and information technology is wonderful! The tomato sauce, onions and garlic add a nice sweet flavor every bit well as the raisins! Peachy combination of ingredients!

To the person that says Cubans practise not put capers and raisins in their picadillo, I beg to differ. My Abuela, from Cuba, ALWAYS used capers and raisins and never used the white wine that you speak of. Now, we never used the cumin, sugar and sazon in ours but then once more, there are Cubans I know that put Culantro (not cilantro) in their black beans and cumin in their black beans and we never did that either. I thinks that's a preference.

This dish sounds bully and diversely flavorful (raisins, olives and capers) in theory. However, when washed, all you can taste is cumin and overpowering spice. This is an case of besides much of a good thing and not enough subtlety.

Alarm!!! Practise Non Utilize 2.82 oz of Sazon!!! (Unfortunately, I gave this recipe to my coworker who doubled the recipe and used v Oz Sazon; declared it inedible! Being Cuban, Sazon is a staple and I never questioned the amount listed). You need just two of the tiny little packets that are included in the 1.41 oz box (or whatever sized box). As for the recipe, the Sazon is a great twist on a classic recipe. A little kick to a perfect recipe. I often add a little more than tomato sauce and olives, unless I'one thousand filling empanadas. Without raisins and adding cheese (as some suggested) it'southward simply not picadillo only keep the recipe as-is and it's authentic.
